About
Speed Limited acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the ancestral lands upon which the studio operates, pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, and proudly designs and manufactures all garments in Australia.
Alvi Chung is an Australian fashion designer, cultural contributer and underground movement builder. She is the founder and creative director of SPEED, a contemporary tailoring label that combines sharp construction with an edgy futuristic twist. Since its birth in 2018, SPEED has worked exclusively with deadstock and sustainable fabrics such as cactus leather, hemp, organic cotton and recycled materials.
Alvi’s designs have been presented at Australian Fashion Week with a series of distinctive shows: Tears of the Oasis (Carriageworks, 2023), Electric Suns (Sydney Aquarium, 2024) and Phantom Revolt (The Plaza Sydney, 2025), which featured garments made from fully recycled computer cables and cactus leather. SPEED has been stocked at Harrolds Luxury Department Store and worn by high-profile artists including The Kid Laroi, Ruel, Brent Faiyaz, Jillian Nguyen, Zindzi Okenyo and Big Zuu to name a few.
Alongside her design practice, Alvi is the co-director of WINGS Independent Fashion Festival with Daniel Neeson. Inspired by the spirit of London’s Blitz Club, WINGS was created as a response to the shrinking opportunities for emerging designers in Australian Fashion Week. The festival reclaims heritage venues such as The Old World Bar in Kings Cross now known as Mansions Potts Point and Room 22, and Plaza Hotel Sydney, (formerly Planet Hollywood), and transforms them into sites of fashion, music and art. With guerrilla fashion shows and live performances, WINGS is listed on the Neon Nightlife Marketplace as part of Sydney’s cultural revival.
Her collaborations include Nike Kit Couture during the Women’s World Cup, and a co-created artwork with Jordan Gogos acquired by the National Gallery of Australia. Alvi will also feature in the upcoming Powerhouse Museum documentary New Wave of Powerhouse Designers, highlighted in Vogue. She has been a finalist in the Vogue Toblerone Never Square Awards and has designed costumes for the Sydney Film Festival campaign.
Her work is recognised for innovation, inclusivity and sustainability, crossing boundaries between fashion, performance and community.
